Sailing Mediterranean sea, we have you covered. We are pleased to announce that we've pushed a data update that makes complete coverage of Mediterranean sea available to all our customers. Its available for download, effective immediately from our native app on iOS, Android & Windows devices. Coverage is ENC/Vector for Mediterranean folio.
We are pleased to announce that the latest version (18.104.22.168) of the Windows app for PCs/tablets/laptops etc now included supports for hardware/GPU accelerated vector marine & lake charts. We support all Windows devices running 8.1 or higher.
Rotate marine charts (Text stays upright)
Zoom up to as close as 5 ft
Custom depth unit (ft, meter, fathom)
Keyboard shortcuts for zoom, rotate, tilt
I've attached a few screenshots from a Windows tablet running the latest vector version.
i-Boating app now supports custom depth shading to highlight shallow areas. I've included a specific example at the end illustrating how to use and before/after screenshots.
1. Without depth shading
2. With depth shading
3. How I figured out what value to choose for shading?
Before depth shading
For e.g. this is what the default map looks for New Jersey inter coastal waterway. There are two depth areas here (one below 2.95 ft and the other above it). When navigating you would want to highlight the shallow area with a different color.
With depth shading
Here is how to use depth shading:
Tap menu/overflow button and select "Settings"
Scroll down and check the box that says "Enable Custom Depth Shading"
Change shallow depth to 0 ft and safety depth to 2.9f ft
Here is a screenshot with custom depth shading.
How to figure out what value to use?
You can use object query to find out depth range of an area. Simply long touch any where int the area and select "Object Query".
Viewing marine charts and fishing maps over satellite imagery and regular street maps was requested by several i-Boating customers. We are pleased to announce that the feature is now live on Android devices. (iOS version will become available upon Apple approval).
We have provided multiple different sources (currently 10 sources) of basemaps for i-Boating customers to choose from including street maps, USGS Topos, USGS aerial, satellite imagery and more.
Here is how to change the background maps:
Tap menu/overflow button on top right and select "Settings"
In Settings screen select "Refresh Available Sources" from the dropdown.
Select one of the several background maps
Tap on Save
I've added a few screenshots with this in action from my Android phone (for Lake Constance/Bodensee and San Francisco Bay).
We have recently added support for water level offset in i-Boating. This lets i-Boating users adjust the depth shown on the maps. If you have had less rain in your area (e.g California drought), you may want to decrease the depth shown on the map by specifying a negative value for depth offset. This would change all depth values shown on the map.
Tap on menu/overflow button (lower right on iPhone, top right on Android).
Type in the depth offset you wish to choose.
Tap to Save
I've also attached a few screenshots below showing the settings screen on both iOS and Android.
We are pleased to announce that we have added support for coverage of Persian/Arabian Gulf, Red Sea & Gulf of Eden. The folio covering this region is available in i-Boating for both iOS and Android devices.

We have worked very closely with Vexilar, a leading marine electronics company to add support for SonarPhones. Using this Sonar/GPS combo, iBoating app users will have incredible insight into their fishing spot, what the underwater structure is like and where the monsters are swimming.
Connect Multiple Devices, each with customized Sonar Displays
Multiple devices running iBoating app can connect to the same SonarPhoneTM, with individually customized Sonar displays. Each iBoating client can customize the following even if they are connected to the same SonarPhoneTM.
Background (Blue, Greyscale or White)
Temperature unit (Celsius or Farenheit)
Depth unit (Feet or metre)
Auto Follow with Real Time Track Overlay
An adjustable height split screen enables you to look at realtime depth and water temperature along with yourlocation on the map. In Sonar mode, the app turns on auto follow:
Continuously update device’s location on the chart.
This is the standard moving map that shows device’s position on the chart
Real time track overlay of the course you have sailed so far.
This shows the course you have already sailed in dark red/brown color. This gives you an idea ofhow you got to your current location.
Direction arrow showing a boat’s location if current course is maintained
This is helpful to avoid any sailing hazards esp if you are sailing for fun and not following a predefined route.
Sonar Logging/Free HD Bathymetry maps
iBoating Route Manager now includes support for Sonar Logs. Share your Sonar Logs with iBoating
community and contribute to the creation of HD bathymetry maps for your waterbody.
